77 tea firms lose 920 original title deeds

In a pubic notice Kenya Tea Development Authority (KTDA) has warned the public over LOSS OF DOCUMENTS AND ORIGINAL TITLE DEEDS.

“The public is hereby notified of this loss of key company documents, original title deeds and
other records and are cautioned on the same. Any transaction, exchange, charge, copying,
purchase, deposit, lease and or any other act whatsoever involving the said documents, title
deeds and other retrieved items will be treated as illegal acts, civil wrongs, and acts of
professional misconduct, where applicable,” reads part of the notice.

KTDA Group Head Office at KTDA Farmers Building along Moi Avenue, Nairobi, was raided, information of which is in the public domain.
The Magistrates Order that facilitated the raid has since been stayed by the High Court of
Kenya at Nairobi. No inventory of what was removed from the offices was prepared as is
required in such events.
Original title deeds of various companies within the Group and which are kept in safes at
the Head Office, were taken away and as stated, no inventory was taken, nor was there a
KTDA officer present at the time the documents, title deeds and items were taken away.
The whereabouts of all the documents, title deeds and items retrieved from our offices
remain unknown. A total of nine hundred and twenty (920) original title deeds belonging to
seventy-seven (77) companies listed below were removed from the company safes.
