Empowering People
Cooperatives have long served as pillars of financial empowerment. They offer members access to credit, savings, and investment opportunities. These resources fuel both personal and economic growth. Janet Yezel, a devoted member of Signon Sacco, and Enoch Osike, a loyal affiliate of Sisi kwa Sisi Cooperative Society, have lived this reality. They shared their inspiring experiences at the 2025 Ushirika Day Celebrations in Mombasa.
Janet’s Journey: From Education to Entrepreneurship
Janet has harnessed Signon Sacco’s financial services to change her life. One of her first benefits was a school fees loan. This loan allowed her to pursue higher education at Kenyatta University. With her degree, she gained the skills and confidence needed to start her own business.
Today, Janet is the founder and CEO of a successful cosmetics company. Her journey showcases how a cooperative loan can spark entrepreneurship. Beyond her business, she enjoys the benefits of regular savings and competitive interest rates. Affordable credit has also been vital for growing her enterprise.
“Joining Signon Sacco was one of my best decisions,” Janet says. “The loans didn’t just help me pay my fees; they gave me the capital to start my own business and secure my future.”
Enoch’s Rise: Building Wealth Through Cooperative
Enoch Osike joined Sisi Kwa Sisi Cooperative Society in 2012. Since then, his financial situation has dramatically improved. Through disciplined savings and smart loans, he has achieved dreams that many aspire to.
He has built a permanent three-bedroom house, providing security and comfort for his family. Enoch also acquired a prime plot of land valued at over one million shillings. This investment ensures a better future for his family. He has secured quality education for his children, enabling them to attend good schools.
“Before joining the cooperative, saving was a struggle, and loans were often too expensive,” Enoch reflects. “But with Sisi kwa Sisi, I’ve learned to plan, invest, and grow steadily. The cooperative isn’t just a financial institution—it’s a true partner in progress.”
Why Cooperatives Matter
The transformative stories of Janet and Enoch highlight the power of cooperatives in Kenya. They provide affordable loans for education, business, and development. Cooperatives also offer secure savings with attractive returns and financial education for better money management. More than just service providers, cooperatives help build futures and empower individuals.
