In a bold move aimed at accelerating loan book growth and enhancing member convenience, Apstar DT Sacco Society Ltd has introduced a fully integrated Online Loan Application Module through its upgraded Members’ Online Portal. The platform enables members to access loans and financial services remotely, efficiently, and securely.
The innovation, unveiled during the Sacco’s 2025 financial reporting period, comes as the institution continues to register steady growth in its loan portfolio — reinforcing lending as its primary income driver and a catalyst for socio-economic transformation among members.
According to National Chairman Dr. Philip K. Cherono, net loans to members rose from Kshs. 12.26 billion in 2024 to Kshs. 12.98 billion in 2025, representing six percent growth.
“Our loan portfolio, which remains the core driver of Sacco income, also recorded steady growth,” said Dr. Cherono while addressing delegates at the 2026 Annual Delegates Meeting. “An additional Kshs. 720 million was extended to members during the year in the form of credit — a substantial amount injected by the Sacco to support the various socio-economic development needs of members.”
The Chairman emphasized that the increase in lending is not merely a financial statistic, but a direct investment in the lives and aspirations of members both locally and abroad.
“Every loan issued represents an opportunity for a member to create employment, build a home, educate a child, expand a business, or improve their livelihood in one way or another,” he noted.
The upgraded Members’ Portal is expected to significantly strengthen this growth trajectory by simplifying how members apply for and manage loans. Through the platform, members can now submit loan applications online without physically visiting Sacco offices — a development that aligns directly with the Sacco’s core value of accessibility.
The digital platform allows members to choose their preferred loan security option, whether guarantor-based or collateral-based, request guarantor approvals digitally, and upload supporting documents such as title deeds and motor vehicle logbooks directly through the system.
“In line with our commitment to improving service accessibility, the Sacco also upgraded the Members’ Online Portal during the year under review,” Dr. Cherono stated. “This upgrade introduced an Online Loan Application Module, enabling members to apply for loans conveniently through the digital platform.”
He added that the innovation is particularly transformative for members living abroad and those stationed in remote areas where access to physical Sacco branches is limited.
“This is especially beneficial for our members in the diaspora and those working in remote locations, who can now access Sacco services without needing to physically visit our offices,” he said.
Members have already welcomed the development, describing it as timely, convenient, and transformational in addressing the everyday financial realities they face.

Grace Chebet, a teacher based in Turkana County, said the platform will eliminate the burden of travelling long distances to access Sacco services.
“For those of us working in remote regions, accessing Sacco services has sometimes meant travelling for many hours or relying on paperwork that delays processing. The online loan application platform will save us time, reduce costs, and make services accessible wherever we are,” she said.
Fellow member James Mwangi noted that the digital guarantorship approval process will significantly improve efficiency and speed in loan processing.
“In the past, getting guarantors to physically sign documents could delay loan approvals — especially when members are stationed in different locations. Now guarantors can approve requests digitally, which means members can access emergency and development loans much faster,” he observed.
For diaspora members, the innovation is expected to bridge geographical barriers and deepen engagement with the Sacco.
Lilian Akinyi, based in the United Kingdom, described the portal as a major breakthrough for members living abroad.
“This platform makes us feel connected to the Sacco despite being far from home. Being able to apply for loans, track applications, and access statements online gives us both confidence and convenience. It is a clear sign that the Sacco is embracing global digital trends to serve all members equally,” she said.
The portal offers members a complete digital lending experience, covering the entire loan lifecycle — from application and guarantorship approvals through to loan tracking, repayment, and statement generation. Members can also calculate loan eligibility and projected repayments before applying, enabling more informed borrowing decisions.
Beyond credit services, the portal has evolved into a comprehensive financial self-service platform. Members can now access FOSA account statements, business account statements, deposit account statements, loan statements, and dividend statements in real time.
According to Sacco leadership, this level of transparency and convenience is expected to deepen member trust while improving operational efficiency.
“This level of accessibility empowers our members with real-time financial visibility, strengthening transparency and trust in the Sacco,” Dr. Cherono remarked.
The Chairman further revealed that the Sacco’s ongoing digital transformation is already generating measurable operational benefits, including reduced printing and paperwork costs, more efficient document archiving, lower courier and administrative expenses, and faster service delivery.
“Collectively, these ICT initiatives are delivering tangible benefits to the Society — significant operational cost savings, reduced paperwork, efficient document archiving, and reduced administrative expenses. Most importantly, they are enhancing the overall member experience, which remains central to our growth agenda,” he said.
Industry analysts observe that online loan processing positions Apstar DT Sacco Society Ltd competitively within Kenya’s increasingly digitized financial services sector, where convenience, speed, and accessibility are becoming key determinants of member loyalty and growth.
By leveraging technology to bring services closer to members, the Sacco is not only modernizing its operations but also strengthening its capacity to expand lending, increase member engagement, and respond to evolving expectations in a rapidly changing financial landscape.
As the Sacco pursues its long-term growth agenda, the digital lending platform is expected to play a central role in driving future loan uptake, enhancing operational efficiency, and reinforcing Apstar Sacco’s commitment to delivering accessible, member-centred financial solutions.
