Malonza Elected ICA Global Vice President

Macloud Malonza has been elected Vice President of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) Global, a major honour for Kenya’s cooperative movement. The win follows his unanimous election earlier this year as Chairperson of ICA-Africa, where he secured all 65 votes at the Regional Assembly, defeating Nigerian contenders Lawrence Bale and Ojo Oladayo Aindehinde.

A veteran cooperative leader, Malonza chairs the Co-operative Alliance of Kenya (CAK), Co-operative Bank Holdings, and Harambee DT SACCO.

His rise mirrors Kenya’s outsized weight in Africa’s Sacco sector. Per the World Council of Credit Unions’ (WOCCU) 2025 Statistical Report, Africa’s credit union movement closed 2025 with $19.6 billion in assets across 25,609 institutions and nearly 59 million members, with Kenya alone holding $8.34 billion, over four times Senegal’s total (the continent’s second-largest movement) and more than every other African country combined, despite not having the highest membership numbers.
