Bingwa Sacco Named Champion with Six National Ushirika Awards

BEST CUSTOMER CARE

Bingwa Sacco has once again distinguished itself as a top performer at the prestigious 2025 Ushirika Day Awards, scooping six national accolades and setting a benchmark for agriculture-based cooperative societies.

As a well-established Deposit-Taking Sacco, Bingwa has consistently climbed the ranks to become one of Kenya’s leading Savings and Credit Cooperatives. During the awards ceremony held at KICC to celebrate the 103rd International Day of Cooperatives, Bingwa Sacco was recognized for its outstanding performance across several categories. The Society took home trophies for the Best Performing Sacco, Best in Risk Management, Best in Capitalization, and Most Efficient Sacco, emerging first place in all these competitive areas. In addition, Bingwa received the first runners-up award for the best DT Sacco in credit management, and was also recognized as the third Most Improved Sacco.

The event brought together hundreds of cooperatives, members, and stakeholders from across the country to celebrate the excellence and impact of the cooperative movement in building a better world. Bingwa Sacco’s impressive achievements were a highlight of the event, firmly establishing its position as a national benchmark in cooperative banking.

At the Kirinyaga County Ushirika Day celebrations, Bingwa was recognized as the best Sacco offering the highest interest on members’ non-withdrawable deposits at 14%.

The financial performance and growth of Bingwa Sacco in recent years have been remarkable. Bingwa Sacco continues to empower its clientele by providing accessible and affordable credit.

With a robust profitability and commitment to its members, the Sacco distributed dividends and rebates totaling Ksh 340 million early this year.

One of the key factors behind Bingwa Sacco’s recent success has been its adoption of technology-driven financial solutions. The launch of Bingwa Sacco Agency Mashinani—a localized agency banking model—has enabled the Sacco to extend its services into rural areas, enhancing financial inclusion and member convenience.

“This initiative has been praised for bridging the gap between the Sacco and underserved communities, allowing members to access financial services such as deposits, withdrawals, loan applications, and account inquiries from their neighborhoods,” said the Sacco Board of Directors Chairman, Mr. Francis Mugo.

The Sacco has also invested in digitization and strategic innovation to improve efficiency, security, and user experience. These investments are expected to further enhance its performance and increase member satisfaction in the coming years.

Bingwa Sacco operates under the regulation and supervision of the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA), ensuring that it adheres to the highest standards of financial management, transparency, and accountability. This regulatory framework provides both current and prospective members with added confidence in the safety and reliability of their financial institution.

Speaking at the Kirinyaga County Ushirika Day celebrations, Bingwa Sacco CEO CPA Elizabeth Warui expressed gratitude to members and staff for their unwavering support and commitment.

“This recognition is a testament to the hard work of our staff, the trust of our members, and the strategic investments we have made in technology and human capital. We are proud to serve our members and will continue driving sustainable growth and innovation,” said CPA Warui.

As Bingwa Sacco continues to expand its reach and embrace digital transformation, it is well-positioned to achieve even greater milestones in 2025 and beyond, with a focus on enhancing customer experience and economic empowerment.
