CIC appoints new board chair as Magomere retires

CIC has appointed Dr Nelson Kuria as the new chairman of the insurance group.

Dr Kuria has a wealth of experience insurance and development finance having worked for 36 years in various private and public financial institutions including being a former CIC Insurance Group PLC CEO.

According to a notice published in the local dailies, he was appointed as independent non-executive Director of the CIC Board in September 2020.

Dr Kuria takes over from Mr Japthe Magomere who retired having joined the Group as a director in 1988 and subsequently appointed chairman in 2004.

“Mr Magomere brought immense value to the company overseeing its growth from a small insurer to one of the leading insurer in Kenya and the region,” read the notice signed by Gail Odongo, the Group Company Secretary.

CIC also announced appointment of Nawiri Sacco Chairman Mr James Njue as the Group’s board vice-chairman. Mr Njue is also the chairman of Coop Holdings Co-operative Society and the Co-operative Bank of Kenya Ltd.

At the same time Ms Jyoti Patel, who joined the Board of CIC Group in 2018, has retired. She was also the chair of the audit committee.
