CS Oparanya Hails Sacco’s Decade of Growth

 

The SACCO sector has recorded tremendous growth over the past decade, with total assets rising from Ksh 301.54 billion in 2014 to Ksh 1.08 trillion by December 2024, and reaching Ksh 1.13 trillion by August 2025.

The Total Deposits have also surged from Ksh 205.97 billion in 2014 to Ksh 749.43 billion in 2024, hitting Ksh 806.37 billion by August 2025. Membership more than doubled, growing from 3.1 million to 7.4 million in the same period.

Presiding over the launch of the Sacco Supervisory Report 2024 released today, Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs, Hon. EGH Wycliffe Oparanya, praised the sector’s progress:

“There is no doubt that the regulated SACCOs have made notable gains over the decade.”

He noted the milestones come at a symbolic time, during the 2025 UN International Year of Cooperatives.
