Former Kisumu governor replaces Murathe as SASRA chair

The SACCO Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) has a new Board chairman.

Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development CS Simon Chelugui has appointed former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma as the new SASRA chair replacing George Murathe for a period of the next three years.

“The Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development appoints— Jack Ranguma to be a Member and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the SACCO Societies Regulatory Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 10th February 2023,” a notice reads.

Murathe was appointed on July 6, 2022. He is an economist with over 20 years of experience and had served in various positions in the Government including being an Independent Board member at Kenya Wine Agencies Ltd and Kenya National Trading Corporation prior to his appointment. 

Ranguma was the first governor of Kisumu County elected in 2013.
