Gender Balance in Saccos
Gender balance in SACCO employment is a game-changer. By embracing diversity, cooperatives can unlock fresh ideas, ensure fair representation, and build stronger communities. It is essential for both women and men to have equal representation at the decision-making table to drive inclusive and lasting change.
According to the recent SASRA report on the performance of SACCOs, there were a total of 5,776 male employees among the regulated SACCOs in 2023, representing 48.61% of the total workforce. This was a decline from the 49.39% reported in 2022. In contrast, female employees dominated the employment landscape, numbering 6,107 and accounting for 51.39% of all employees—an increase from 50.61% in 2022.
In the DT-SACCOs segment, there were 5,171 male employees and 5,420 female employees. In the NWDT-SACCOs segment, the numbers were 604 male employees and 657 female employees.
Gender parity has largely been achieved in the employment opportunities available among the regulated SACCOs, contributing to inclusive and sustainable change for a better world.
