Hazina Sacco Drives Change Beyond Banking

Hazina Sacco promotes sustainable development for its members and communities through comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The Sacco places a strong emphasis on community welfare, ensuring the prosperity of not only its members but also the surrounding communities, which is in line with the seventh cooperative principle concern for the community. With branches across the country, Hazina Sacco has established itself as a leading financial institution that fosters the prosperity of its members.

Demonstrating its commitment to improving livelihoods, the Hazina Sacco Board of Directors recently carried out a series of CSR activities in Kakamega and Trans Nzoia counties. Under the leadership of the National Chairman, Mr. Evans Kibagendi, and CEO, Mr. Dickson Okungu, the Sacco successfully completed two transformative projects aimed at enhancing education.

In Trans Nzoia County, the Sacco financed the construction of six fully equipped washrooms and urinal at a cost of Ksh700,000 for Top Station Primary School in Saboti Constituency.  Additionally, in Kakamega County, Hazina Sacco generously donated 60 chairs and lockers to Lugala Secondary School, one of the most populous schools in the county, greatly benefiting its 950 students by providing them with proper seating facilities.

“We are committed to community development, and the Sacco has always ensured that we touch the lives of members and communities. We are always ready and open to support people to attain prosperity; as we say, together we prosper,” said Mr. Kibagendi.

Hazina Sacco conducts CSR activities annually in various counties based on branch performance in membership recruitment. Through these community-centered projects, the Sacco has significantly enhanced the learning environment in schools. In addition to the infrastructure improvements, the Sacco also provided mathematical geometry sets to learners at Lugala Secondary School, further contributing to their academic development.

The Sacco is truly making a positive impact on communities, working together to create an environment of prosperity. Its investments in education, social support, and infrastructure development are paving the way for a brighter future for students, preparing them for success.

The Sacco’s CSR programs encompass a wide range of initiatives, including improving school infrastructure, providing scholarships and bursaries, and running mentorship programs. Hazina Sacco is promoting equity and equality in society. Last year, the Sacco completed the construction of an ablution block and provided water tanks to Tutu Primary School in Kiambu.

Mr. Dickson Okungu, the Sacco’s CEO, emphasized the importance of giving back to society, stating that allows the Sacco to engage with communities at the grassroots level.

“Hazina Sacco is committed to collaborating with members to improve the welfare of their communities. Our CSR projects go beyond providing infrastructure; we engage with students, mentor and motivate them to work hard towards their life goals. We also promote a savings culture to help them plan for a better future,” he said.

The Sacco collaborates with government institutions to improve the socioeconomic status of communities. Its exceptional financial services have positioned it as a leading Deposit-Taking Sacco, providing financial products and services that empower communities to succeed.

With a mission to provide prompt, quality, and efficient financial services through effective savings mobilization and prudent credit administration for the socioeconomic advancement of its members, Hazina Sacco, with over 66 branches, has united its members in prosperity.

The latest Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) Annual Sacco Supervision Report 2023 ranks Hazina Sacco as the 11th largest DT-Sacco overall, with an asset base of over Ksh14.7 billion, Ksh11.08 billion in total deposits, Ksh10.02 billion in gross loans, and Ksh1.77 billion in total income.

Madam Phanice Khatundi, CEC of Agriculture and Cooperatives in Trans Nzoia County, commended Hazina Sacco for its remarkable growth and commitment to community development during the official launch of the Kitale satellite office at Mega Plaza. She encouraged more people to join Saccos, citing the positive impact on the lives of county staff who are members of Hazina Sacco and have witnessed the Sacco’s ability to improve their lives.

“We encourage more people to join Saccos, as they stand a better chance to improve their lives.”
