The Kenyan government is committed to promoting the establishment of an institutional framework to mobilize personal savings and credit cooperatives to encourage economic growth and eliminate financial exclusion.
The Principal Secretary for the State Department for Cooperatives, Mr. Patrick Kilemi, stated that the 24th Savings and Credit Cooperatives Associations (SACCA) Congress will seek to promote economic growth, empower local communities, and enhance socio-economic development.
The conference aims to bring together cooperatives from across the continent to explore strategic and innovative approaches to promoting sustainable cooperative financial institutions. The conference is scheduled for October 2024 and will be held in Naivasha, Nakuru County. It is expected to attract over 1,500 cooperators from five different continents.
The Ministry of Co-operatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development, in partnership with the African Confederation of Cooperative Savings and Credit Associations (ACCOSCA), will take the lead in organizing the conference.
The SACCA Congress is a continental platform that brings together cooperators and stakeholders from across Africa and beyond to promote dialogue on critical issues facing SACCOs unions and explore strategic and innovative techniques for ensuring sustainable cooperative financial institutions on the continent.
