The Sacco IT professionals, in collaboration with the State Department of Cooperatives, officially launched the Sacco IT Professionals Association (SITPA).
SITPA is a strategic platform designed to unite technology professionals working across Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (Saccos) in Kenya. This initiative is a step in fostering knowledge-sharing, driving value addition, improving operational efficiency, and steering the sector towards sustainable digital growth.
Speaking during the launch, officials emphasized the urgency of embracing emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain, cloud computing, and automation. These tools, they said, would help Saccos gain a relative competitive edge by streamlining operations, enhancing transparency, reducing costs, and improving service delivery to members.
“We are bringing together the innovative minds behind Sacco technology systems to collaborate and create future-ready solutions that reflect the needs of our sector,” said one of the SITPA founding members. “Digital transformation is no longer optional. It is essential for sustainability and inclusivity.”
A key pillar of SITPA’s mission is to involve and empower youth (Gen-z) within the cooperative ecosystem. The association aims to create mentorship opportunities, tech incubation hubs, and digital skills training that will position young people at the center of the cooperative movement.
The State Department of Cooperatives lauded the move, noting that technology will play a crucial role in transforming the cooperative sector into a more resilient and inclusive part of the national economy.
SITPA plans to host forums, workshops, and programs to continuously foster innovation and collaboration. With this initiative, Kenya’s Sacco sector is poised for a digitally-driven future that is efficient, inclusive, and sustainable.
