Univision DT Sacco Members Approve Transition to Annual Delegates Meeting System

Univision DT Sacco members have approved a transition from the Annual General Meeting (AGM) system to the Annual Delegates Meeting (ADM) system. This decision was made during a Special General Meeting held recently at Ithookwe Primary School.

The Chief Guest at the event was Rose Mawia Mutuku, the Kitui County CEC for Trade, Industry, MSMEs, Cooperatives, and Innovations.

The Society’s Board of Directors Chairman, Reverend Augustus Munuve, expressed gratitude to the members for their agreement to make this shift.

“We appreciate your willingness to transition from the AGM system to the ADM system. We are following the Cabinet Secretary’s directive, which gave us six months to implement this change, and we have met the deadline,” Rev. Munuve stated.

On June 18, 2025, the Commissioner for Cooperative Development issued a circular directing all cooperatives in Kenya with more than 10,000 members to adopt a delegate system for representation in their general meetings. The 49-year-old Univision DT Sacco currently boasts over 60,000 members.

Rev. Munuve emphasized that the supreme authority of the Society will now be vested in the delegates. “Members from each electoral unit will elect their delegates. A bona fide member is defined as someone with fully paid-up shareholding of over Ksh10,000 who is actively contributing to the Back Office Services Activity (BOSA) deposits,” he explained.

He added that the Society will establish electoral zones and units as determined by the board over time, with each member belonging to one specific electoral zone/unit. The Annual Delegates Meeting will be convened within four months following the Society’s financial year-end.

“The Society will operate under a delegate system of representation. The board will notify members about any vacancies arising in the board or the supervisory committee, as well as delegate positions, through the Society’s official communication channels,” he elaborated. The board will form electoral zones and units based on factors such as geographical location, member count, common bond, and the consolidated shares and deposits of members in a given area.

The Sacco will have a maximum of 200 delegates, or a number as decided by the board from time to time and approved in the delegate meeting.

Rev. Munuve announced the proposed electoral units for 2025, which include: Kitui Central/Katulani (18 units), Kitui West/Matinyani (17 units), Nzambani/Kisasi (15 units), Mutomo/Ikutha (15 units), Mutitu (15 units), Mwingi Central/Migwani (15 units), Lower Yatta (15 units), Mwingi East/Ngomeni (15 units), Kyuso, Tseikuru/Muumoni (15 units) for Kitui County; as well as Makueni (8 units) for Makueni County and Machakos (6 units) for Machakos County.
