War Against Coffee Cartels Brings Hope for Farmers, Says Deputy President

Coffee farmers have a glimmer of hope as the government intensifies the war against cartels, which has started to bear fruits. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed optimism that the coffee sector will soon be streamlined to benefit farmers who have suffered under unscrupulous profiteers for far too long.

He is confident that with the support of President William Ruto, the sector will regain its former glory as the country’s leading foreign exchange earner.

Gachagua has been working with the Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Simon Chelugui, and other key stakeholders in the coffee sub-sector to finalize the modalities for distributing the Coffee Cherry Advance Revolving Fund.

The government has allocated Sh4 billion on top of the earlier Sh2.7 billion to boost the Fund. “Our resolve is unshaken, and we will not rest until our farmers get what they deserve for their hard work,” Gachagua emphasized.

The Deputy President said that the sweet aroma must be back to our coffee the way it was in the 1970s and 1980s when coffee was the nation’s leading foreign exchange earner.
