Worrying Less

If you’re struggling with anxiety, most of the advice out there will only provide temporary relief. In fact, some of these tips could end up making your anxiety worse in the long run. So, here are some practical ways to help you feel less anxious for good:

 

  1. Change your self-talk – stop labeling yourself as an anxious person or a worrier. The words you use to describe yourself have a powerful impact on how you feel. Instead, try to be more balanced and kind in your self-talk.
  2. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. If you’re always avoiding expressing your true desires and needs, you’re more likely to feel anxious. Learn to be more assertive and ask for what you really want.
  3. Don’t engage in conversations with your worries. Everyone worries, but it’s important to not let those worries consume you. Practice observing your thoughts without getting carried away by them.
  4. Don’t just try to cope with anxiety – learn to tolerate it. Coping mechanisms might provide temporary relief, but they can also make your anxiety worse in the long term. Instead, practice accepting your anxiety and being tolerant of it.
  5. Learn to say no more often. Anxiety can be a symptom of poor boundaries. Saying no can help you establish healthier boundaries and reduce your anxiety.
  6. Exercise regularly. Exercise has numerous benefits, including reducing anxiety. It can also help improve the quality of your sleep, which can further reduce anxiety.
  7. Accept uncertainty. Trying to find meaning in everything can make you feel anxious. Instead, practice accepting uncertainty and learn to be okay with not always having control.
