The Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies sub-sector remains the fastest growing among the cooperative movement in Kenya. It has enhanced financial access to citizens while strengthening sectors like agriculture, education, and finance.
The latest development initiated by the government to ensure the growth continues are welcome. For instance, the Sacco-Central, a platform for shared services among the Sacco Societies, is a game-changer. The secondary cooperative, operating in a regulated environment but governed by members elected from its member societies, will greatly enhance service delivery while enabling Saccos to access the National Payment System. The Societies will enjoy the economies of scale that arise from having a uniform and standard provider of Management Information systems.
