How Ndege Chai Sacco Bagged 19 Awards

Ndege Chai Sacco achieved a remarkable victory during the 2025 Ushirika Day celebrations, winning a total of 19 awards at both the national and county levels.

The Sacco netted four prestigious national Ushirika Day awards during a gala dinner held at KICC, showcasing its excellence in cooperative banking. These accolades included Best in Credit Management (1st place), Best in Member Management (1st place), Best Performing Sacco (3rd place), and Most Efficient Sacco (3rd place), all within the agriculture-based Saccos category.

The rapidly growing Kericho-based Sacco also dominated the County Ushirika Day fete, winning 15 trophies and certificates. During a lively awards ceremony at Kericho Primary Grounds, Ndege Chai emerged victorious in various categories, clearly carrying the day as the champion.

Dr. Leonard Otii, the County Cooperative Officer, praised the management, staff, and delegates of Ndege Chai for their efforts, which led to the Sacco’s success on multiple fronts.

Under the visionary leadership of its nine Board of Directors, led by Chairman Mr. Daniel Sang and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Gilbert Bett, Ndege Chai Sacco has steadily risen to become one of the leading financial institutions in the country. The Sacco was among the first Deposit-Taking Societies to be licensed by SASRA in 2011 and has maintained this status yearly since then.

Its membership is drawn from Kericho County, as well as Nakuru, Bomet, Nyamira, Nandi, Mombasa, and Nairobi counties. The Sacco is committed to promoting and practicing good corporate governance as key factors in ensuring the sustainability of its operations and accountability to its members.

Mr. Bett noted that the primary contributing factor to the growth of the Sacco is maintaining high levels of transparency and accountability. He emphasized that members are happier when they know their savings are in safe hands, which is achievable only with a strong assurance and insurance environment.

“Offering the best management services and funds is essential for the success of any Sacco. When a Sacco provides timely and affordable loans, it can be regarded as a high performer,” the CEO stated.

Mr. Bett also attributed the Sacco’s achievements to the trust of its members, the dedication of the management team, and the strategic use of technology and innovation.

“These awards reflect the hard work of our entire team and the unwavering support from our members. We have remained committed to our mission of putting members first, investing in innovation, and maintaining high governance standards,” he added.

In 2024, Ndege Chai Sacco recorded impressive financial growth, increasing its total assets to Ksh 5.3 billion. The Sacco’s loan portfolio expanded by 12%, meeting the credit needs of its growing membership, while the dividend payout on shares reached an impressive 18.5%. Members also benefited from a 10% interest rate on deposits. The Sacco’s membership base grew by 9.5% in 2024, highlighting its increasing appeal and trust among Kenyans.

With an expanding portfolio of diverse products, the Sacco has launched new branches and enhanced its digital services for more efficient member service. The introduction of a USSD code (*882#) and a mobile banking platform (M-ndege) has improved access to financial services, allowing for real-time transactions and account management from any location.

Having achieved Tier I status, the Sacco now operates among the elite cooperative financial institutions in Kenya.

Looking to the future, Ndege Chai Sacco is committed to continuous innovation, expansion, and strategic investments aimed at economically empowering its members. Plans are underway to introduce more tailor-made financial products, expand rural outreach, and enhance financial literacy initiatives.

Founded on cooperative principles and ethos, Ndege Chai Sacco provides savings and credit solutions to over 70,000 members across the country. The Sacco continues to lead through innovation, transparency, and inclusive growth.
