Kenya National Police DT SACCO Celebrates Major Wins in 2025
In the heart of Kenya’s thriving co-operative movement, a giant stands tall. It is a beacon of resilience where ambition meets action, and where the men and women who serve the nation are themselves served with dignity and financial prudence. As 2025 unfolds, the Kenya National Police Deposit Taking SACCO (KNPDTS) has solidified its position not just as a financial institution but as a benchmark for excellence.
Guided by the mantra United in Prosperity, the SACCO has transcended the traditional role of savings and lending. It has become an engine of transformation, turning members into empowered achievers and proving that informed choices lead to collective prosperity. This is a tradition it has maintained since 1972.
A Financial Fortress
The numbers tell a story of unshakeable trust and aggressive growth. According to the latest Annual Supervision Report, 2024 by the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA), the Kenya National Police DT SACCO is on an upward trajectory that towers over many on the continent.
The SACCO’s scorecard for the period is enviable: total assets have surged past KSh 59.83 billion, with total deposits exceeding KSh 34.51 billion. Perhaps most telling of its impact is the gross loan portfolio, which now tops KSh 51.86 billion—capital that is currently circulating in the economy, building homes, educating children, and funding businesses.
Despite prioritizing people over profit, the SACCO’s prudent management saw it top the charts with total income amounting to KSh 9.95 billion. This financial muscle allowed for a record-breaking dividend payout of KSh 3.9 billion for the fiscal year 2024, rewarding members with an impressive 17% rate of return on share capital.
“We value our members’ money. We ensure they get the best return on investment,” affirms Mr. David Mategwa, the SACCO’s National Chairman. “At the Kenya National Police DT SACCO, it isn’t just about saving or borrowing— It’s about turning ambition into action, dreams into reality, and members into empowered achievers. It is about securing the future today, growing together, and rising as one, united in prosperity.”
Igniting Minds
In 2025, the SACCO once again conducted a successful nationwide Education Drive. Moving beyond the boardroom and banking halls, the leadership took financial literacy to the grassroots, traversing counties from Busia, Bungoma, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Homabay, Kakamega, Kisumu, Nandi, Siaya, Trans Nzoia, Vihiga, to West Pokot and beyond.
The initiative is more than a series of seminars; it is a movement. Thousands of members are equipped with practical skills on investment, debt management, and wealth creation.
“Members were encouraged to think beyond today, to plan with confidence, and to build a legacy that future generations will inherit,” Mr. Mategwa says.
This commitment to education culminated in the National Top Savers Seminar, a high-profile event graced by the Co-operatives and MSMEs Development Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya. Under the theme “Building a Secure & Strong Financial Future,” the SACCO’s best savers were mentored on wealth preservation, setting a new standard for member engagement in the sector.
A Heart for the Community
While the balance sheets are impressive, the soul of the Kenya National Police DT SACCO lies in its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The institution has embraced the cooperative principle of “concern for community” with remarkable generosity.
In a bid to light up lives literally and metaphorically, the SACCO visited the Warankara QRV Camp in Mandera. Donations included solar panels, hybrid inverters, and television sets—vital contributions bringing connectivity and comfort to officers serving in remote hardship areas.
The SACCO’s dedication to academic excellence remains unwavering. At Utumishi Boys Academy, the SACCO rewarded the top performers of the KCSE 2024 exams, donating eight laptops and 44 tablets to ‘A’ students.
“We are pleased that the SACCO continues to support academic excellence. This will motivate other students,” said Dr. Maina Gitonga, Principal of Utumishi Boys Academy.
In perhaps its most profound display of loyalty, the SACCO has taken up the mantle of guardianship for the children of deceased members. Refusing to let tragedy extinguish potential, the institution champions the education of these students through full sponsorships and dedicated mentorship. This labor of love is already bearing fruit: young minds that once faced uncertain futures are now thriving professionals, carving out successful careers in Kenya and on the global stage—living proof that the SACCO’s pledge to serve its members transcends even a lifetime.
Furthermore, the spirit of sportsmanship was bolstered by donations of volleyball kits to both the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Kenya Airport Police Unit (KAPU) teams. As KAPU Commandant Mr. Bernard Korir observed, these gestures foster talent, teamwork, and unity within the service. The SACCO’s CSR projects do not stop here; it is making a difference far beyond the above examples.
The Gold Standard
The SACCO’s holistic approach to business has not gone unnoticed. It continues to sweep prestigious accolades, including the Best Managed Sacco Award, and top honors in Capitalization, Credit Management, and Deposit mobilization. Its prominence at the FiRe Awards and the CIO Gold Award further cements its reputation as a forward-thinking, digitally innovative institution.
Today, the Kenya National Police DT SACCO is more than a bank; it is a destination. Delegations from across Africa and beyond now visit the SACCO to learn the ropes of effective cooperative management.
As the SACCO marches through 2025, offering interest rates on loans as low as 1% and instant mobile solutions, it is clear that its mission is working. It is not just banking money; it is banking on the dreams of its members. With knowledge on duty, prosperity is indeed in sight. Over 83,000 members united in prosperity.
