A Legacy of Prosperity
Ollin DT Sacco celebrated a landmark golden jubilee, marking five decades of transformative financial services, member empowerment, and institutional resilience. It was a colourful event that brought together members, leaders, staff, and guests. From speeches and music to dances and food, everything befitted an accomplished financial institution of Ollin’s stature.
Under the theme “Celebrating Legacy… Inspiring the Future,” the anniversary was a fitting reflection of the Sacco’s enduring mission and vision, and of the lasting impact it has had on the lives of its members.
Speaking at the event, the Sacco Board Chairman Mr. Cyrus Kabute, delivered an impassioned address reflecting on the Sacco’s remarkable journey and charting an ambitious course for its next chapter.
“A journey of fifty years is no small achievement. It is a testimony of vision, sacrifice, determination, and collective commitment,” said Mr. Kabute.
Founded on the principles of cooperation, savings, trust, and mutual support, Ollin DT Sacco has grown from humble beginnings into a respected and dependable financial institution. Mr. Kabute paid tribute to the founding members, crediting their boldness as the cornerstone of everything the Sacco has achieved. “Those visionary founders believed in the power of cooperation and mutual support,” he said. “Through discipline and dedication, they laid the foundation upon which Ollin Sacco proudly stands today.”
Over five decades, the Sacco has recorded significant milestones: steady membership growth, expanded access to affordable credit, improved financial sustainability, and the rollout of digital and mobile banking services. Member education, financial literacy programmes, and support for entrepreneurship, housing, agriculture, and education have further deepened the Sacco’s community impact.
“Integrity, accountability, transparency, professionalism, innovation, and member-centered service continue to define who we are. These principles must remain our guiding light as we move into the future,” said Mr. Kabute.
Looking ahead, the Sacco is pursuing a forward-looking agenda centred on digital transformation, expanded investment opportunities, youth engagement, sustainable practices, and strengthened governance. “We are committed to building a Sacco that future generations will be proud to inherit,” he added.
Dr. Nelson Kuria, MBS, OGW, Chairman CIC Plc and chief guest at the event, observed that Ollin DT Sacco’s story is one of commitment — ordinary people achieving an extraordinary feat.
“Ollin has achieved great work, and that is manifested in everything we see here. What we see speaks louder than words. You cannot help but appreciate the standard of excellence on display,” said Dr. Kuria.
That success began in June 1976, when 163 teachers gathered with a shared conviction: that ordinary people, pooling their resources, could build extraordinary futures. Fifty years later, that conviction has grown into Ollin DT Sacco – a Ksh 15 billion institution serving over 46,000 members across Kenya and every continent.
“As we mark our 50th Anniversary, our celebrations are not about numbers or growth curves. They are about the lives transformed, the children educated, the entrepreneurs who built thriving businesses, and the families who found dignity and stability through Ollin Sacco,” said CPA John Gathige, CEO Ollin Sacco.
At its core, the story of Ollin Sacco is a story of faith in one another. Its founders dared to imagine a financial institution rooted in savings, affordable credit, and collective economic empowerment — and year after year, the Sacco has grown by leaps and bounds. From an asset base of Ksh 330.4 million in 2000, the institution now commands Ksh 15 billion in assets, a loan book of Ksh 11.2 billion, and a branch network spanning 22 locations across the country.
In 2014, the Sacco rebranded, adopting the name Ollin; meaning “All In.” This was not a cosmetic change, but a deliberate move to open its doors wider, embracing a more inclusive membership.
“What started as a small circle of visionaries pooling their resources has grown into a beacon of hope, stability, and prosperity for tens of thousands of members across the globe,” said CPA Gathige.
The Sacco’s leadership credits a faith-and-values-driven approach, member-centric innovation, strong governance, and technological agility as the hallmarks of its success. Last year alone, the Sacco paid out Ksh 940 million in interest on member deposits and dividends on share capital — a figure projected to surpass Ksh 1 billion this year.
Whether financing education, building homes, growing businesses, or planning for retirement, the Sacco has remained, in the words of its leadership, a trusted financial partner across every season of its members’ lives.
“Ollin Sacco is a success story – a testament to what can be achieved when vision is matched with commitment, and strategy is executed with precision,” CPA Gathige noted.
Building a Movement
Anchored in an ambitious 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, the Sacco has set its sights on closing this year with a membership of over 60,000 and an asset base exceeding Ksh 17 billion. The plan rests on four key pillars: member centricity, sustainable business growth, digitalization and operational efficiency, and strong governance. The ultimate ambition is to transform Ollin Sacco from a financial institution into a full-blown movement.
“The Golden Jubilee calls us to honour the sacrifices and achievements that have shaped our success, while inspiring us to embrace new opportunities and pursue even greater possibilities,” said CPA Gathige.
For an institution built on the belief that prosperity should be accessible to all, the tagline Together We Prosper feels less like a slogan and more like a promise – one that 163 founders made 50 years ago, and one that 46,000 members are keeping alive today.
