Trophies Today, Trust Tomorrow
This month’s issue arrives on the back of one of the busiest seasons on the cooperative calendar. Ushirika Day, marked this year under the theme “Co-operatives for a Peaceful World,” brought the movement together at Uhuru Park and in counties across the country, and it did what these gatherings do best: it reminded us how much ground our Saccos and other cooperative societies continue to cover and how much scrutiny that growth now demands.
Hundreds of trophies changed hands this year, a number large enough that it can start to feel routine. It shouldn’t. Behind every category, from institutional capital to credit management to technology adoption, sits a rigorous, months-long adjudication process run by CCBI on behalf of the National Ushirika Council and the Cooperative Alliance of Kenya, as well as counties’ ushirika councils. Cooperatives are measured against genuine peers, not against outliers many times their size, which is precisely why the results carry weight.
