Makueni County is strengthening governance, financial accountability and operational efficiency among ward-based savings and credit cooperative societies (SACCOs) to safeguard members’ savings and improve access to financial services.
As part of the initiative, nine ward-based SACCOs attended a sensitisation forum in Emali on Thursday, followed by another 10 SACCOs in Kikima on Friday, as part of a three-day countywide training programme.
The training, funded by the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) in partnership with the Cooperative Development Directorate, focuses on equipping SACCO leaders with practical skills in regulatory compliance, the use of the SACCO Toolkit and cybersecurity.
The programme aims to promote transparency, strengthen financial controls and enhance the security of members’ funds while improving service delivery.
Speaking during the training, Makueni County Chief Officer for Livestock and Cooperative Development Daniel Ndolo urged SACCO leaders to embrace responsible management practices, uphold accountability and prioritise the protection of members’ savings.
The initiative seeks to build stronger and more transparent SACCOs capable of expanding access to financial services, supporting farmers and traders, and contributing to sustainable economic growth across the county.
