Counties with highest Saccos

Nairobi City County has the highest number of Regulated SACCOs’ head offices with 177-Regulated SACCOs, which account for 49.30% of the head offices of all Regulated SACCOs.

It is followed by the Counties of Kiambu, Mombasa, Meru and Nyeri with 31, 16, 13, and 9-Regulated SACCOs’ head offices and accounting for 8.64%, 4.46%, 3.62% and 2.51% respectively.

The Counties of Embu, Kajiado, Kericho and Bomet, each has a total of six (6) head offices of Regulated SACCOs representing 1.67% each, while the Counties of Machakos, Muranga and Tharaka Nithi each has a total of five (5) head offices of Regulated SACCOs representing 1.39% each.

The head office locations of Regulated SACCOs in the country are distributed among 40 Counties, with the DT-SACCOs’ head offices being in all the 40 Counties while the presence of head offices of NWDT-SACCOs are distributed among only 17 Counties. This implies that there are seven (7) Counties which do not host a head office of any of the Regulated SACCOs. These are the Counties of Makueni, Turkana, Tana River, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, and Isiolo, even though the Counties of Turkana, Makueni, Tana River and Isiolo are served by branch networks of other Regulated SACCOs

A total of 109-Regulated SACCOs representing 30.36% of all the Regulated SACCOs had established and operationalised branch networks in different parts of the Country according to the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) Sacco Supervision Annual Report 2022.
