Five DT Saccos join the top ranks in 2021

Five Deposit-Taking Sacco moved to the large-tier or those with a balance sheet size of more than KSh 5 billion, namely Ushuru Sacco Society Limited, Amica Sacco Society Limited, Jamii Sacco Society Limited, K-Unity Sacco Society Limited and Unison Sacco Society Limited.

According to the latest Sacco Society Regulatory Authority(SASRA) 2021, Defence Sacco Society directly joined the big league segment upon being licensed.

On the other hand, the DT-SACCOs with assets of below KSh 1 billion decreased from 84-DT-SACCOs with a market share of 5.21% in 2020 to 82- DT-SACCOs with a market share of 4.82% in 2021.

The reduction in the number of the small-tiered DT-SACCOs from 84-DT-SACCOs was informed by the fact that four (4) small-tiered DT-SACCOs had their deposit-taking licenses withdrawn or not renewed in the year 2021 leaving 80-DT-SACCOs.

However, two other previously small-tiered DT-SACCOs namely Muki Sacco Society and Mafanikio Sacco Society graduated to the mid-tiered category.
