George Ototo, the Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Co-operatives (Kuscco) Group Managing Director, has called on African governments to continue creating an enabling policy and legislative environment for SACCOs owing to the unique role that co-operatives play in bringing about equitable growth and socio-economic development within local communities.
Speaking during the 2022 SACCA Congress in the Kingdom of Eswatini, Mr Ototo noted that stakeholders’ participation and political goodwill are vital ingredients to the development, approval, and implementation of any policy.
In his detailed presentation on Adopting a Participatory Approach in Cooperative Policy Development process, Mr Ototo took participants through the various stages of the Co-operative policy development process highlighting the governments’ critical role in ensuring co-operatives thrive.
“There is no perfect policy, but the objective for which it is intended should as far as possible be realized.”
