Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Chelilim Bii has urged Savings and Credit cooperative societies (SACCO’s) to provide competitive credit facilities to the members so as to enable them to afford loans which will help them improve their lives.
Speaking during Noble Sacco’s 43rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) recently held in Eldoret, Chelilim assured that his government is committed in supporting cooperatives and by doing that he urged the Sacco’s to also give affordable interests which is becoming a challenge to members which he said results in defaulting adding that, cooperatives are the only way citizens can be empowered financially.
“I am kindly requesting the Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies to provide cheap loans to the members for enhanced production. I also hope that the Saccos will provide quick loans to its members” Governor said
The County Boss further encouraged the locals to join Saccos and to save their funds, insisting that, it would help them to improve their livelihoods.
He called upon the Uasin Gishu residents to form groups adding that the department of cooperatives and Enterprise Development has set aside funds to support those in groups.
“I challenge those who are yet to join Saccos to do so as a move to help steer the county’s developments and you will also get support from my government through the department of Cooperatives and Enterprise development,” he stated
He cited that those who will join Saccos will benefit from the funds offered by the County and National Governments.
He however, congratulated Noble Sacco for its enormous growth, for winning the trophy and for the increased shared capital.
At the same time, the Noble Sacco Society Limited Chairman David Rono urged the governor to support the Sacco by encouraging the county staff to channel their salaries through the Sacco. He said the move will help the Sacco to grow even more and that the members will also grow financially since they will be saving and also borrowing the loan at an affordable interest.
He added that, with the plans of opening branches and satellites, the services will be taken closer to members where they will be able to tap the business community and other potential members.
