The Government will eliminate brokers and middlemen in a move aimed at reducing the cost of food production in the country.
President William Ruto said the intervention at the production level would make farmers produce more.
Under the new approach, the Government will collect data on farmers that will inform policy decisions. “We must register our farmers to know their acreage and crops they grow to determine inputs required,” said President Ruto, who was speaking at State House, Nairobi.
He said the Government would use stockists to distribute fertiliser as part of the long-term plan to stabilise the country’s food production. “We will also use e-vouchers to deliver affordable fertiliser to farmers.”
