Meru Farmers benefit from Ksh100M Dairy Feed Mill

In a landmark development for the dairy sector, President William Ruto, accompanied by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, officially initiated the construction of a groundbreaking dairy feed mill in Meru County. The establishment of the Meru Maziwa Millers Ltd, valued at Ksh100 million, marks a significant stride towards revolutionizing dairy farming in the region.

Located on a sprawling five-acre plot, the state-of-the-art mill is poised to transform the dairy industry by offering high-quality feeds at competitive prices. This initiative is expected to decrease the cost of dairy feeds substantially, leading to an uptick in milk production, enhanced food security, and a boost in the industrialization efforts within the county.

Beyond the immediate benefits of dairy farming, the project is set to contribute to the agricultural value chain significantly. By bolstering the incomes of dairy farmers, creating new jobs, and cementing Meru County’s position as a pioneer in the dairy industry both locally and internationally, this project is a game-changer.

In addition to the dairy mill’s launch, President Ruto announced the allocation of a Ksh2 billion budget dedicated to the Dairy Sector. This funding aims to secure international markets for Kenyan milk, offering a promising avenue for farmers to increase their earnings. Furthermore, a nationwide vaccination campaign for all livestock is in the pipeline, underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing the livestock industry’s health and productivity.
