Mombasa BodaBoda operators form co-operative

Boda Boda operators in Mombasa hope to achieve financial growth through Mvita Boda Boda Sacco.

The riders believe their newly established transport co-op will enable many to develop a saving culture.

It is now a requirement for motorcycle operators countrywide to join co-operatives as the government sustains a crackdown on rogue riders.

Khalifa Mwatsahu, the Society’s Chairman, said the Sacco would enhance security, youth empowerment, and road safety awareness for both the operators and the passengers.

“Mvita Boda Boda Sacco will greatly transform our lives, we are urging riders out there to come and join us,” he said.

Mwatsahu called for public participation in the new regulations by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), adding that at least 10,000 Boda Boda riders operating in Mombasa need to be fully informed of these new guidelines.

Mombasa County Deputy Governor, William Kingi, lauded the move by the riders noting it was a new beginning towards their economic empowerment.
