INSPIRE, EQUIP, EMPOWER
Sheria Sacco is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary with outstanding achievements in service delivery, financial performance and members’ empowerment.
Its 50 years of existence have been five decades of tremendous success in transforming and uplifting members’ livelihoods. The Sacco has walked the talk, supporting its members’ dreams of achieving financial independence through reliable, accessible, affordable financial products and services. Many of the Sacco members attest they have had a true financial partner who has inspired, equipped and empowered them to attain their development goals.
With phenomenal and historical growth in all key segments last year, Sheria Sacco turns 50 with a crown of honour and epitomises the making of a successful co-operative society. The Sacco has steadily and exponentially moved from strength to strength through prudent and visionary leadership. The Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) ranks it the 27th largest DT-Sacco nationally, with total assets of over Ksh7.5 billion.
In commemorating the fiftieth anniversary the Society lined up a series of activities including a free medical camp for members. This is in line with the Sacco’s Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, which emphasises giving back to the community to promote social and economic empowerment.
The Sacco is also set to launch Mwanga wa Elimu, a scholarship programme targeting needy secondary school students who will be supported throughout their O-level education.
The Sacco will, in addition, organise a tree planting exercise to promote environmental conservation, helping mitigate the adverse effects of climate change that has caused a lot of unprecedented calamities worldwide.Â
Driven by the urge to offer convenient and efficient financial solutions, Sheria Sacco will be celebrating having rolled out an innovative Integrated Core Banking System (ICBS), making it the first in the country to integrate its banking system fully. The new system has enabled automation of all banking processes enabling the Sacco to offer a seamless multi-currency, cash maintenance, alerts and electronic distribution, anti-money laundering reports, and bulk and sweep accounts, among other features.
This has revamped its digital banking channels, such as ATM services, SMS banking, internet and mobile banking, which are now more secure. Increased digital platforms have made Sacco products and services more accessible while enhancing customer experience.
Sheria, now a tier 1 DT Sacco, launched a deposits mobilisation drive providing incentives to encourage members to save more. It is among the financial institutions offering high returns on members’ investments. Early this year, members received improved payment on their investment as the Board announced dividends on shares payment at 16% and interest on deposits at nine per cent. The total payout amounted to over Ksh480.1 million.
Having registered Ksh918 million in turnover last year, the Sacco is set to close the Ksh1 billion mark at the end of this year. In 2021, the Sacco loaned members over Ksh6.58 billion.
The Sacco has also developed elaborate member education programmes to enhance financial literacy among members for better decision-making that will lead to economic empowerment. “
At the same time, the Society has diversified its products and services range to maximise members’ benefits by tailoring them to the needs of members.
“The Society’s core mission is to empower members economically by providing them a forum to save and access loans and affordable rates,” says Hon. Justice Patrick Kiage, Sheria Sacco National Chairman.
Sheria Sacco was registered in 1972, drawing members from the Judiciary, AG chambers, various Government Ministries, and business persons, among others.
