Acting Co-operative Commissioner Geoffrey Njang’ombe has said National Co-operative Policy Taskforce members will soon be announced.
Members will be drawn from the Council of Governors (CoG), Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA), Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Co-operatives (KUSCCO), Co-operative Alliance of Kenya (CAK), Co-operative Bank and CIC Insurance Group.
Cabinet Secretary in charge of Co-operatives Peter Munya is expected to gazette the appointment any time soon.
A stakeholders forum is slated for November 4th to November 6th this. It will be held in Naivasha, where co-operative stakeholders will discuss the implementation process.
The taskforce is expected to draft laws to govern the co-op sector in line with the policy guidelines within 90 days.
The Cabinet approved the cooperatives policy last year.
The Co-operative policy is expected to overhaul management of co-operatives management in the country with an aim of promoting Co-operative Societies for Industrialization.
Among other things the co-operative policy is expected to deepen use of ICT in the vibrant movement.
