The role of co-operatives in promoting peace and justice

The sixth Cooperative Principle emphasizes the importance of co-ops serving their members effectively and working together to strengthen the wider cooperative movement through local, national, regional, and international structures. Concern for the Community means that co-operatives work towards sustainable development policies that are approved by their members, which is central to promoting peace in communities worldwide. The United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development urges efforts at various levels to secure a just, peaceful, and inclusive future. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) envision a world free from poverty, hunger, discrimination, and exploitation of people and planet. SDG 16 speaks directly to the role of Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions in securing sustainable development.
