A new Boda Boda Investment Scheme launched recently by President Uhuru Kenyatta will change fortunes for millions of youth eking out living in the transport sector.
According Boda boda Safety Association of Kenya (BAK) there are over 1.5 million boda boda riders in the country.
Under the investment scheme the riders are expected to save up to Sh25 billion annually across the country. Each operator is expected to save at least Sh 50 daily.
President Uhuru urged the riders pool their resources together and initiate development projects that will benefit their families.
It is estimated that motorcycles are used to transport about 20 million people on any given day.
Every week boda boda riders rake in Sh 6.8 billion of Sh 980 million daily. About 5.2 million Kenyans depend on the bodaboda business for a living.
