Boniface Gitau is proud to be a member of Vision Africa Sacco, which has its headquarters in Nakuru town.
He is making big steps out of poverty thanks to his Sacco that is taking him closer to his vision. He has kissed poverty goodbye setting his eyes to becoming a successful entrepreneur.
Today he not only affords to offer a good life to his family but he has employees who depend on him.
“Since the year 2010 when I joined the Sacco I have greatly bettered how I handle my finances. I have improved on savings and spending money for the right purpose,” says the married father of two.
Joining the Sacco, he says, was the best thing he has ever done. “I had joined a lot of other financial institutions which proved hard for one to access cheap credit.”
From working as a bodaboda operator, Gitau now owns two tuk-tuks owing to his Sacco’s support.
“Besides low interests rates, Saccos also have friendly terms for payment that even middle income earners are able to meet without much pressure and stress,” says Gitau who operates his business along Kanu Street in Nakuru.
He says in the period he has been Sacco member he has managed to pay loans faithfully without much straining. “From what I earn am able to comfortably support my family and pay my Sacco loan.”
Gitau plans to expand his business and own a matatu in future.
He says: “Being a Sacco’s member you not only get financial support, but you also own it and you are entitled to have a say in the direction the Sacco should take. You also get dividends annually.”
He urges small business people to join Saccos where they stand to benefit more compared to other financial institutions.
“I have seen my friends also grow to attain personal development through saving in a Sacco,” he says.
