By Co-op News

Kenya National Police DT Sacco will celebrate its Golden Jubilee next year with a bag full of accolades for exemplary service delivery.

The DT-Sacco stands tall in Africa’s co-operative movement and has established itself as a benchmarking centre where other co-operative societies eager to learn effective Sacco business model come to.

In 2021, the Sacco hosted tens of co-operative leaders and managers on benchmarking tour at the country’s third-largest DT-Society. Among them was a delegation from various Cooperatives across Africa who visited the Sacco ahead of the 21st SACCA Congress that was held in Kwale.

Recently, a delegation from Thyolo Teachers Sacco from Malawi also visited the Society for a benchmarking visit to learn the best practices and processes in managing a successful Savings and Credit Co-operative Society.

The Sacco National Chairman David Sohelo Mategwa often hosts Boards of Directors and Management Staff who come to learn at the Kenya National Police DT Sacco’s success.

Registered on 20th November 1972, the Sacco has become the epitome of exemplary co-operative, both in financial growth and achievement in empowering members for a quality life. Its mission is to provide competitive financial solutions to members through effective mobilization and management of resources.

Kenya National Police DT Sacco is no doubt Kenya’s most decorated co-operative society with an outstanding global reputation.

The country’s third-largest deposit-taking Sacco, according to Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) latest ranking, has over 70,000 active members and an asset base of above Ksh 39billion.

Global Credit Rating (GRC) agency upgraded the Sacco’s national scale issuer ranking to BBB+ (KE) /A2 (KE) from BBB(KE) /A3(KE), with a positive outlook, which reflected its favourable asset quality, relative to financial sector peers, good capital, leverage, and sound funding and liquidity.

It achieved a GCR leverage ratio of 31.73 per cent for the financial year 2020 up from 29.51 per cent in the previous year, indicating its strong capital position that is a key rating strength. Its current core capital to total assets ratio stands at 32.0%, 22 % above the regulatory requirement of 10.0 per cent, the institutional assets to capital ratio at 23.9% is 15.9% higher than the 8.0% regulatory requirement, and the core capital to deposits ratio at 49.3% is 41.3% above the 8.0% requirement.

Kenya National Police DT-Sacco receives ISO 9001: 2015 recertification

Kenya National Police Deposit-Taking Sacco has been ISO 9001: 2015 recertified for the third time since 2015.

The DT Sacco ranked the third largest in Kenya has continually improved its information and management systems, according to the certification audits. This third certification expires in 2024.

ISO 9001:2015 specifies requirements for a quality management system when an organization:

 a) needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and

 b) aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

All the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 are generic and are intended to apply to any organization, regardless of its type or size, or the products and services it provides.

“The Sacco is committed to providing quality services to members, and we have seen growth in total assets and deposits. This is a demonstration of the confidence that members have in the Sacco,” said Mr. David Mategwa, the Sacco National Chairman.

Mr. Mategwa said the Sacco was remained resilient in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, owing to the fact that most of its members are Government employees whose salaries have remained stable during the period.

“During the pandemic period, Kenya National Police Deposit-Taking Sacco has invested heavily in technology as more members seek services through virtual platforms,” he said.

The DT Sacco was registered in 1972. It started with a membership of 690 and has since grown to over 60,000 members.

Data from the latest Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) report ranks the DT-Sacco among the best in the country.
