In a dazzling display of prowess, the SACCO secured six trophies at the 2026 Ushirika Day Awards, cementing its legacy as the titan of the industry.
It is a story of discipline, ambition, and excellence. Not once. Not twice. Kenya National Police DT SACCO has, once again, become a national champion, a citadel of excellence in the provision of financial solutions.
In recent years, the SACCO has featured prominently on the national stage, scooping up top accolades for outstanding performance and cementing its place as the country’s most decorated financial cooperative. And so, when the 2026 Ushirika Day dinner gala arrived to mark the 104th International Day of Cooperatives, few were surprised to see the SACCO once again dominate the evening, taking home six national awards in recognition of excellence across a sweep of adjudicated categories.
The trophies, presented by the Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs Development, Hon. FCPA Wycliffe Oparanya, EGH, told a story of an institution firing on every cylinder:
- Best Performing DT SACCO – 1st Position
- Best DT SACCO in Capitalization – 1st Position
- Best DT SACCO in Deposit Management – 1st Position
- Best DT SACCO in Member Management – 2nd Position
- Best DT SACCO in Credit Management – 2nd Position
- Most Improved DT SACCO – 3rd Position
These honours reflect an unwavering commitment to innovation, sound governance, financial excellence, and the delivery of exceptional value to members, the four pillars on which the SACCO has built its reputation.
The Society leadership thanked members and staff for the trust and dedication that have made the institution synonymous with success.

At Uhuru Park, where the Ushirika Day celebrations were held, Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, EGH, the event’s chief guest, joined Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya, EGH, and Hon. Patrick Kilemi, CBS, Principal Secretary for Cooperatives, in visiting the SACCO’s stand, its trophies stacked like evidence of a case already won, and commending it for its successes. The SACCO has become a benchmark not only for cooperatives in Kenya but across Africa and beyond.
A Trailblazer
What separates Kenya National Police DT SACCO from its peers is not luck but design. The institution has made a habit of trailblazing through innovative products and services engineered to improve members’ financial well-being, a philosophy that dovetails well with this year’s Ushirika Day theme, “Cooperatives for a Peaceful World.” In embracing that theme, the SACCO remains committed to empowering members and building stronger communities through cooperative excellence.
After all, it is an institution with a long memory of winning. The country’s third-largest Deposit-Taking SACCO has been recognized for excellence year after year. In 2025, it claimed the national Best Managed SACCO Award after finishing second in that category, while also bringing home trophies for Best DT SACCO in Capitalization (2nd), Best DT SACCO in Credit Management (2nd), and Best DT SACCO in Deposit Management (2nd). In both 2023 and 2024, it was crowned the best-managed SACCO in the country overall, in addition to claiming the top award for the SACCO subsector at the prestigious FiRe Awards and receiving the CIO Gold award in 2023.
Behind these accolades lies something more substantive than trophy-collecting: a genuine reordering of what excellence looks like in the cooperative movement. Through prudent management, effective savings mobilization, and accessible credit, the SACCO has set new standards by offering affordable loans and attractive dividends; the kind of outcomes that translate directly into members’ pockets.
The Growth
Figures, too, tell as vivid a story as the trophies. Members of Kenya National Police DT SACCO have grown accustomed to healthy returns on their investments; earlier this year, they collectively pocketed more than Ksh 4.1 billion in annual returns, receiving a 17% dividend on shares and an 11% interest on deposits, following a stellar financial performance in 2025 that saw growth across every key indicator.
The SACCO’s total assets climbed steadily to Ksh 66.4 billion. Loans and advances surged 10.1% to reach Ksh 55.3 billion, while total revenue grew 8% to Ksh 10.7 billion. Visionary governance and disciplined management have sustained this growth.
That discipline has not gone unnoticed by international observers. The SACCO’s strong capital liquidity and excellent asset quality earned it a favourable Global Credit Rating (GCR) with a stable outlook. Building on its ISO 9001:2015 certification, the Society has since layered in information security (ISO 27001) and business continuity (ISO 22301) management systems.
Technology as Strategy
If governance is the SACCO’s backbone, technology is fast becoming its nervous system. The institution’s 2025–2029 Strategic Plan rests on four pillars: member centricity, institutional sustainability, fostering a better world to live in, aligned with ESG principles, and ICT and digitization.
“Technology continues to be a strategic pillar and driver of the SACCO’s business operations,” Mategwa noted. The SACCO has rolled out technological enhancements designed to improve service efficiency, reliability, and accessibility across multiple channels, chief among them its Mtawi platform, a game-changer that now seamlessly supports deposits, withdrawals, loan disbursements, and repayments.
A Classroom for the Cooperative World
Success, inevitably, invites imitation, or at least the desire to understand it. It is precisely because of this run of excellence that Kenya National Police DT SACCO has become something of a school for other cooperatives, regularly hosting delegations eager to learn from the best.
Recently, the SACCO welcomed a delegation attending the African Confederation of Cooperative Savings and Credit Associations (ACCOSCA) Regulatory Round Table, which paid a learning visit to its headquarters. The engagement offered a rare opportunity for knowledge-sharing on governance, regulatory compliance, innovation, digital transformation, and institutional sustainability, while also opening the door to future collaboration that could strengthen cooperative institutions and advance financial inclusion across the region. It also hosted a delegation from the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) SACCO, Eswatini.
For all its trophies and growth achievements, the story of Kenya National Police DT SACCO ultimately returns to a promise kept. As the institution continues empowering its members with financial solutions that transform lives and secure brighter futures, it does so within the full bounds of the laws and regulations set by its regulator: SASRA. This commitment to compliance has made it a champion of both service delivery and governance.
United for Prosperity is not a slogan stitched onto the SACCO’s public messaging. On the evidence of the last several years, it is closer to a description of how the institution actually operates.
