SASRA Releases List of Licensed Saccos as Regulatory Oversight Intensifies

The Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) has officially gazetted the list of licensed and authorized Sacco societies permitted to operate in Kenya for the financial year ending December 31, 2026.

The comprehensive publication, signed by SASRA Acting Chief Executive Officer David Sandagi, underscores a rigorous regulatory framework designed to safeguard member deposits and ensure long-term fiscal stability within the sub-sector.

The Authority has cleared a total of 352 Sacco societies to conduct business through the 2026 calendar year. This includes:

* 176 Deposit-Taking (DT) Saccos

* 176 Non-Deposit-Taking Saccos

The list features major industry players all of which have satisfied the stringent capital adequacy and liquidity ratios mandated by the regulator.

Restricted Licenses and Compliance

In a move to enforce strict compliance, the regulator has placed five Saccos under “Conditionally Restricted Licenses.” These specific institutions are strictly prohibited from accepting new deposits and are limited to credit-only operations throughout the 2026 period.

Additionally, the Authority confirmed that one Sacco has ceased operations following a merger, while the license of another institution has been revoked.

The full directory of licensed Saccos is now available for public viewing on the SASRA official website and at the Authority’s headquarters located at the Old Mutual Tower in Nairobi.
